Museum of Madrid to visit during your stay in the capital


Have you ever been to Madrid? If so, you’ll know that it’s one of the cultural capitals of Spain, and what better way to discover the culture of a city than by going to the museums! Here we will present to you some museum of Madrid so you know where to start!

  1. Prado Museum & Reina Sofía

Perhaps one of the most emblematic museums in Madrid, the Prado Museum is a gallery that contains works of art from the 14th to the 19th century. In the museum you can contemplate masterpieces of painters such as Velázquez, Goya, Rubens or Raphaël. 

Located in the centre of Madrid, next to the Retiro Park, the Prado Museum is very accessible by public transport in the city. It is also very close to another great museum in Madrid: the Reina Sofía.

Similarly, the Reina Sofía, unlike the Prado, is characterised by its great variety of modern and contemporary art, exhibiting among others Pablo Picasso’s Guernica, works by Salvador Dalí or Joan Miró.

In this museum of the railway in Madrid, you can see the evolution of trains in Europe through several rooms containing real trains that have been renovated to look as they did in the past. The museum explains how trains work and how their use evolved over the years. 

The museum is located in Madrid’s Delicias station, a building that is a marvel in its own right. In addition, it was built by the Frenchman Émile Cachelièvre and belongs to the current of metal architecture, like the Eiffel Tower.

Don’t forget that Christopher Columbus discovered America under the Spanish crown! Therefore, a museum of America with pre-Columbian works of art is a logical place to visit in Madrid. In this museum you can find archaeological, colonial and ethnographic works.

It is a museum with a large number of pieces (more than 25,000!) and is one of the most important museums dedicated to this subject in the world.

You can take a photo with Barack Obama, Taylor Swift, The Rock, Rafaël Nadal, or even Miguel de Cervantes! There are many more personalities present in the museum, there are sure to be some to suit you, as there are statues from the world of entertainment, sport, history, and even politics.
