Gran Canaria: an island of landscapes

In Gran Canaria there are many charming places that will leave you speechless, due to the diversity of landscapes that you can find, since it is a small miniature continent. Many of these landscapes can be explored on foot or by bicycle. And you can also learn about history, culture and nature in them.

1. TEJEDA

Situated on the central peak of Gran Canaria, this rural enclave has the aroma and taste of almonds, the fruit par excellence in all local recipes.

One of the most emblematic images of Gran Canaria is this beautiful rock, which you can find in the municipality of Tejeda, and is the standard of the whole island. Located right in the center of it, walk around and discover the impressive landscapes of ravines and pine forests that bathe this impressive natural monument.

Be amazed at how the clouds bathe the mountains and the ravines. Feel how the power of nature crosses every corner of the impressive Canarian pine forests that occupy most of the hectares in the centre of the island.

You can take a picture of Roque Nublo while in the background you can even glimpse the neighbouring island of Tenerife and Spain’s highest peak, Teide. A snapshot that will transport you to the most beautiful and native nature of Gran Canaria.

In Tejeda we can breathe tranquility, ideal to escape from the hustle and bustle and, above all, to enjoy the natural beauty of the most beautiful peaks. Don’t miss the “Museum of Traditions” to learn about rural life in these latitudes.

2. ARUCAS

This city is located in the north of Gran Canaria and shows how agriculture has allowed the activation in the economy, first through the cultivation of the cochineal and then the banana.

In Arucas we can find one of the symbols that most represent this city, known erroneously by the population as a cathedral, this is the Mother Church of St. John the Baptist.

Arucas is older than we can see, as it must have been rebuilt in 1478 after a fire caused by the Castilians. It obtained the title of city at the end of the 19th century and from its name derives a well-known brand of rum, Arehucas, which has its factory established there.
