The 7 best natural swimming pools in Gran Canaria

The 7 best natural swimming pools in Gran Canaria

Taking a bath in the crystalline waters of the Atlantic is always a pleasure, all thanks to the fact that the water temperature is always between 18 and 20 degrees. But the experience becomes something unforgettable when it is also done in one of the many natural pools of the Canary Islands.

The Canarian archipelago is especially rich in these natural resources, also in this type of pools, all of them full of charm and beauty that is impressive.

 What are natural pools?

Natural pools are watertight spaces in which seawater penetrates without the intervention of man except to condition the access to them by means of stairs, walkways or springboards.

Therefore, they are a must for all visitors who, in addition to a refreshing dip, seek perfection in what is authentic and natural.

Natural swimming pools in Gran Canaria

In Gran Canaria, apart from paradisiacal beaches, you can also enjoy numerous natural swimming pools, some of which are unknown. There are seven of them:

1. Las Salinas, Agaete Natural Pool.

It is an obligatory stop in summer for thousands of swimmers who enjoy these three natural pools. Protected from the open sea, in this unique natural enclave you can enjoy relaxing baths with your family, as the waves do not affect the pools, which are connected to each other by volcanic tubes

The municipality of Agaete never ceases to surprise. Although it is famous for its Fiesta de la Rama, for growing the only coffee in Europe or for being one of the points that connect with the neighbouring island of Tenerife, you can also enjoy an alternative day for swimming on the coast of the municipality.

Agaete is, without a doubt, a destination we recommend in your travel itinerary and routes around Gran Canaria. We also recommend this wonderful villa with views that will leave you with memorable memories.

2. El Agujero, Gáldar natural pools.

This swimming area is located in the municipality of Gáldar and has three natural pools where, depending on the season, you can find areas of black sand where you can lie down to sunbathe.

In addition, one of the pools is open to the sea, so you can practice various water sports such as snorkeling, with which you can enjoy the wonderful underwater view of a shipwreck in a paradise for surfers as is the northern municipality.

You can also enjoy the “Necrópolis de la Guancha” which is one of the most monumental archaeological complexes in the Canary Islands. In short, the north of the island will allow you to enjoy some splendid days full of tranquillity and nature that you can enjoy in this unique apartment with terrace.

3. El Charco de San Lorenzo, Moya natural pools.

In spite of the intense and strong waves, the natural pools of Moya are well covered by a wall of stones, isolating completely the danger of the sea. The environment, of considerable beauty, allows visitors to enjoy a small promenade, where they can have a drink or a meal with pleasant views.

4. Los Charcones, Arucas natural pools.

This incredible place is located in the municipality of Arucas, it is no secret, but this is another of the most lively places in the municipality in summer. The construction of the promenade, and the increase of the natural pools, have turned this place into one of the great attractions of Arucas.

It consists of huge, perfectly adapted natural swimming pools, which guarantee a unique experience with a safe and rewarding bath in the healing waters of northern Gran Canaria. It has an immense solarium where you can relax looking at the sun in a quiet family atmosphere.

We invite you to spend a day in this natural pool so that you can feel the satisfaction of this peaceful, refreshing and, above all, natural corner.

5. Roque Prieto, Santa María de Guía natural swimming pools.

Roque Prieto, located in the municipality of Santa María de Guía, will immediately transport you to a place of total calm thanks to the tranquillity and simplicity of one of the most welcoming natural swimming pools in Gran Canaria. This beautiful corner, formed by two perfectly conditioned pools, is an ideal scenario to enjoy the northern coast of Gran Canaria.

Although access to bathe in its waters does not present great difficulty, it is advisable to be as careful as possible due to the state of the sea.

6. Natural pools of Charco de Las Palomas.

In the municipality of Tejeda, Gran Canaria, is this natural pool being the only one of our selection that is located in a non-coastal area. Tejeda has been chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, where we discovered the “Charco de La Paloma” a unique and easily accessible place that you cannot miss.

If you want to take advantage of a day of hiking and enjoy nature in its purest form, come to this point in the geography of Gran Canaria to see its waters up close.

Moreover, thanks to the last rains that have fallen on the archipelago you will surely see some waterfalls and, in the almond blossom season, the road will be even more rewarding. An ideal route to disconnect that you can do even with children.

7. Natural pools of the Salinas del Bufadero.

This is an isolated rocky beach in the area of Arucas where with the coming down of the tide pools are formed where bathing. It also has the added bonus that salt production can still be seen, as it is the only one of the old salt mines in the whole of the northern area that is still in operation.
