The Cabildo de Gran Canaria manages different facilities located in many areas of the island with the aim of offering Gran Canaria residents and visitors the right to enjoy and conserve nature. They are distributed throughout the island and enjoy different climates. 

Are permits required for camping in Gran Canaria? 

Yes, the camping areas offered by the Cabildo are marked and delimited spaces to spend the night in tents or caravans in different municipalities.

For its use and enjoyment is necessary a permission that is managed through the website of the institution, you can click here to access it. In the summertime these areas can change their conditions of use due to the increase of temperatures and the consequent risk of forest fires.

Zonas del Cabildo:

Presa de las Niñas

The camping area located on the southern slope of the island, a mythical and special place for most of the inhabitants of this island. 

At an altitude of about 900 meters, it is located in a pine forest environment and on the edge of the Las Niñas dam. It’s one of the most popular camping areas on the island. The attraction of being around a kind of lake makes it different from the rest of the campers spaces.

It is an area where you can enjoy this famous dam, in which you can swim, go kayaking, or from which you can go on hiking trails to see the best places that are hidden in this area.

It is possible to spend the night in cabins or caravans, with a maximum of 28 and a capacity of 100 people. The distribution of the booths is free, allowing the campers to place themselves individually and of their own free will in the way they are most comfortable, regardless of how they do it.

Llanos de la Pez 

This is another of the island’s camping areas par excellence. It is located in the Central Summit of the island, within the pine forest area, at an altitude of 1,600 metres and within the Nublo Rural Park. It is a space where you can only camp in a hut, with a capacity of up to 400 people.

Feel the nature first hand, camping in this area near the Roque Nublo, in which, you can not only put your tent, but you can make barbecues with which to enjoy family or friends surrounded by the fog and the sea of clouds due to the altitude, this feature along with others such as the pine forests that surround it form one of the most popular camping areas in Gran Canaria.

The place has a camping area and a recreational area that are part of the island network of trails that connect with places like Roque Nublo, Ayacata, La Culata, Cruz de Tejeda or Pico de Las Nieves, among others.

Private Areas:

El Garañón 

These establishments are located very close to Roque Nublo, where you can be living an integrated experience in nature, while having the services of an accommodation. 

It is a camp made up of huts where up to 6 people can stay, as each hut has 3 bunk beds. They offer all the necessary services to spend a dream stay, as well as catering service where breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. 

If you come looking for camping for sports purposes, this place is ideal thanks to its packages of experiences and physical activities and facilities, since they have basketball courts, football and even a swimming pool

Camping Playa de Vargas 

This is another place equipped for camping and living an experience different from the rest of the areas mentioned above, since in this one you will be able to enjoy the beach and it is oriented to people who have a caravan. 

If you come looking for a place that offers you the right and necessary comforts to be able to spend an unforgettable experience near the sea, this is your campsite. Located in Playa de Vargas, this campsite may be the option you are looking for. It is a comfortable and spacious place to park your caravan. 

The campsite has water service, Wi-Fi, restaurant, cabins, bathrooms and showers with hot water. Its beach is very nice and has its own section for fishing lovers. 

So if you are looking for a campsite in Gran Canaria for caravans and at the same time have a beach nearby, the Playa de Vargas campsite is a place you should consider. Your reservation will cost about 15 euros per night.

Camping Tasartico 

This is a campsite located in the Natural Reserve of Güi Güi. Of all the campsites named in this list, this is the most peaceful and remote of them all. It is not the least serviced, as the campsite has all the necessary facilities, bar, market and restaurant. As an extra within the essential services, the campsite has a swimming pool

The beach is only 3 minutes walk from the campsite and, although it is made of stone, this area of the sea is very pleasant for swimming. But the greatest charm of this campsite is the small number of people on it. As I mentioned before, this campsite is far from the city, where several kilometers of the road are dirt so very few people go inside.

It’s the perfect place to disconnect from routine and connect with nature. As it is far away, there is no light pollution on the campsite and without Wi-Fi, not even the coverage arrives. At night, a good number of shooting stars can be seen, which completes the experience in this place. Its price is about 6 euros per person.
